Atiku Confirms 2027 Presidential Election Bid (Video)

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has publicly declared that he would contest for president in 2027. 

Gwg.ng reports Atiku confirmed his intentions in an interview with the Voice of America (VOA).

Atiku’s declaration is coming days after many speculated a possible team up with 2023 Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, on the background of their meeting.

Although Atiku did not give details of his meeting with Obi. The duo’s meeting came days after Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, hinted that the two politicians’ coming together was possible in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye.

However, on Wednesday, Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar, a chieftain of the PDP, further confirmed Atiku’s intention to run for president in a post shared on his X page, accompanied by a video that captured the interview with VOA.

Gwg.ng observed from the video that Atiku did not disclose who his running mate in 2027 would be during the interview. The PDP chieftain tweeted: “Good news to all Nigerians as the people’s favorite, HE. @atiku Abubakar confirmed that he will contest in 2027. 

“Are you ready to vote for the UNIFIER come 2027?”

GWG.ng reports that Atiku was the presidential candidate of the PDP in 2019 and 2023 and had before then sought the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in 2007. He has also vied as an aspirant in 1993, 2011, 2015 and was on the ticket of the PDP with President Obasanjo in 1999 and 2003.
