Obaseki Reiterates Respect For Oba Ewuare II, But Insists On Peace With Rebel Enigie
The Godwin Obaseki administration in Edo State has reiterated its respect for the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II but nevertheless insisted on peacefully resolving the dispute between the suspended Enigies and the royal father.
Reacting to the assertion by the Benin Traditional Council that the involvement of the State Government in the dispute between Oba Ewuare II and his subjects was an insult, the Obaseki government insisted that it would maintain the course in finding a lasting peace on the issue.
GWG.ng reports that the Benin Traditional Council had rebuffed the intervention of the government as an insult on the premise that Oba Ewuare II as a royal father should not be brought to resolving disputes with his subjects as the Obaseki government appeared to be doing.
Reacting to the statement of the Benin Traditional Council, the commissioner for communication and orientation, Chris Nehikhare in a statement, said:
The attention of the Edo State Government has been drawn to a public statement by lawyers reportedly acting on the instructions of the Benin Traditional Council, who raised issues relating to moves for the resolution of certain misunderstanding between the Council and some suspended Enigie in Edo South Senatorial District.
Despite the seemingly unhelpful position of these lawyers in the matter at hand, we want to emphasize unequivocally that the State Government reverently respects and has no issues with our Royal father, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.
The State Government is committed to the peaceful resolution of the misunderstandings within our Royal institution as expressed in the earlier public comments regarding this matter.
The government will continue to explore the path of peace so as to resolve the misunderstandings and ensure the lingering court case is withdrawn and the matter is resolved amicably.
We encourage Edo people and the public to disregard all sensational statements being propagated for selfish political purposes.
GWG.ng reports that the insinuation by the Obaseki government of a political motiff in the issue between the Enigies and Oba Ewuare II is bound to resonate with some in the light of the ongoing campaign to find a successor for the governor.
