Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Four Suspected Kidnappers In Military Uniform

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the arrest of four individuals suspected of kidnapping, who were clad in military attire, and the subsequent rescue of their victims.

This disclosure was made by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, ASP Timfon John, in a statement released in Uyo and provided to journalists on Sunday.

According to John, the Command received a distress call on May 24 regarding a kidnapping incident at Utang Street near Gibbs Street in Uyo metropolis.

Acting swiftly, the Command’s Anti-Robbery Squad mobilized and swiftly moved to the scene, resulting in the apprehension of the four suspects.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in its quest to making the state safe from criminal elements, has arrested four suspected kidnappers.

“On May 24 at about 23:00hrs, the Command received a distress call giving notification of a kidnap incident at Utang Street by Gibbs Street, Uyo.

“The Command’s Anti-Robbery Squad immediately swung into action and mobilised to the scene where four suspects namely; Abdulkarem Yusuf ‘m’, Yusuf Waziri ‘m’, Inbinabo Sunny Iboroma ‘m’ and Abdulrahman Abbas ‘m’ were arrested,” the statement said.

The police spokesperson indicated that the individuals were apprehended while en route to abduct a person named ‘Richie’, who was a friend of their target, Abraham Ekpe. Their intention was to transport both victims to Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River.

She revealed that initial inquiries uncovered that the suspects had previously abducted Abraham Ekpe at Ring Road 3, Opposite Cemetery.

Additionally, they had demanded a ransom of N5 million from Ekpe, but due to his inability to pay, they decided to target his friend instead.

Furthermore, authorities recovered a red Honda Accord car with registration number BJ 615 ABC, along with a handcuff and a dagger from the suspects. Once investigations are concluded, the suspects will face charges in court.

The Police Public Relations Officer emphasized that the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom Command, CP Waheed Ayilara, remains steadfast in the commitment to combat crime in Akwa Ibom State. She urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the police for prompt intervention.
