Three Burnt Beyond Recognition As Benz Runs Into Truck In Lagos

Three persons lost their lives in a tragic accident on Sunday night in the Iyana-Isolo area of Lagos State after the vehicle they were moving in collided with a truck, resulting in a devastating fire.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Monday. He reported that the accident occurred around 11 pm.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, a preliminary investigation conducted by the LASEMA team indicated that the accident involved a speeding Benz car that crashed into a 40-foot container-laden truck. The collision’s impact ignited a fire, which tragically burned three male victims beyond recognition.

The LASEMA boss said, “In its swift and prompt response to emergencies and disasters, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, deployed its response team at Cappa Base, Oshodi, to a distress call regarding a road traffic accident at Iyana-Isolo inward Oshodi at about 2330hrs of Sunday night, May 26, 2024.

“Consequent upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that a Benz car, while on top speed, rammed into a truck laden with a 40ft container.

“The impact of the collision resulted in a fire outbreak with passengers trapped inside the Benz car. Further enquiry revealed the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident occurred. Unfortunately, three adult males were burnt beyond recognition.”

He added that emergency responders managed to extinguish the fire and clear the vehicles from the road, preventing further disasters.

On Monday, reports emerged that another fatal accident occurred on Sunday, claiming four lives when two vehicles collided in the MRI area of the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway.

Additionally, four other individuals suffered various injuries in the crash, which took place around noon.
