BREAKING: Showdown As Labour Rejects FG’s New Minimum Wage Proposal

The Organised Labour has rejected a new minimum wage proposal put forth by the Nigerian Government.

GWG.ng reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) turned down the Federal Government’s offer of N60,000 as the new minimum wage.

The labour unions have adjusted their original demand, lowering it from N497,000 to N494,000.

A key member of the Tripartite Committee negotiating the new minimum wage disclosed that the Federal Government and the Organised Private Sector had proposed a N60,000 monthly minimum wage, an increase from the N57,000 suggested the previous week when negotiations resumed.

Recall that the government had proposed N48,000 and N54,000, both of which were rejected by the labour unions.

Initially, the unions demanded N615,000 as the new minimum wage but revised their proposal to N497,000 last week before further lowering it to N494,000 on Tuesday.

Despite ongoing negotiations, the Tripartite Committee has yet to reach an agreement on the new minimum wage, with just three days remaining until the May 31 deadline set by the labour unions.
