In a remarkable feat, Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, has been named the Best Banking CEO of the Year in Africa for the second year running at the International Banker 2024 Banking Awards.

This prestigious recognition, published in the Spring 2024 issue of International Banker Magazine, United Kingdom, coincides with the completion of his five-year tenure as CEO.

Onyeagwu expressed his delight at the award, stating, “It’s an honor to be recognized as the ‘Best Banking CEO of the Year in Africa’ for a second consecutive year. This award is a testament to our team’s collective efforts, commitment to innovation, growth, and delivering value to our customers and stakeholders.”

He dedicated the award to the bank’s founder and Chairman, Dr. Jim Ovia, for his mentorship, and to the bank’s management team, staff, and customers for their unwavering support and loyalty.

During his tenure, Ebenezer Onyeagwu led Zenith Bank to achieve significant milestones in financial performance, financial inclusion, corporate governance, and sustainability, earning the bank numerous local and international awards, including being named Best Bank in Nigeria four times in five years and Best Bank for Digital Solutions in Nigeria.

Recall, in June 2023, GWG.ng reported that Dr Ebenezer Onyeagwu was named ‘Best Banking CEO of the Year in Africa’ in the International Banker 2023 Banking Awards. The award, published in the Spring 2023 Issue of the International Banker Magazine, sees Dr Onyeagwu honoured alongside other individuals and banks from the Middle East and Africa.

As he hands over the baton to his successor and begins his mandatory regulatory cooling-off period, Onyeagwu’s legacy as a visionary leader and champion of innovation in the banking industry is cemented.
