APC politician threatens to occupy Ajayi Crowther University over Lynching of student

The Oyo State Government has urged calm among all parties involved in the ongoing crisis at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo following the death through bullying of a student alleged to have stolen a phone.

This call for peace comes as security agencies launch an investigation to determine the origins of the incident, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.

The call came in a statement released on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 by Professor Salihu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology. He disclosed that the state government is actively engaging with the university’s management to find lasting solutions to the crisis.

The commissioner emphasized the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to fostering a peaceful academic environment. He highlighted the necessity for students to adhere to the rules and regulations established by educational authorities to maintain order and excellence.

Professor Adelabu also advised students to avoid activities that could jeopardize their future, urging them to consistently strive for academic excellence. He called on the university’s management to enhance security measures on campus to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The crisis stems from a tragic incident that occurred on Saturday when Alex Timileyin, a 200-level engineering student, was brutally beaten to death inside the Shepherd Inn hostel on campus. The assault reportedly followed accusations from his colleagues that he had stolen a mobile phone.

This shocking event has prompted a wave of concern and calls for justice. The state government’s intervention aims to restore peace and order at the university while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
