Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has annulled the 10,000 jobs approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, in the State Civil Service, citing a compromised and flawed recruitment process. Instead, Fubara announced that a fresh and transparent recruitment process will commence soon.

During an interactive session with stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Fubara expressed disappointment that the previous recruitment process was marred by political patronage, with 60% of the selected candidates being over-aged and unsuitable for civil service roles.

Fubara emphasized that his administration prioritizes employment for the future, and it would be impractical to employ individuals who are close to retirement age. He assured that the new recruitment process will be fair, transparent, and focused on hiring capable individuals who can contribute to the state’s development.

In a separate event, Governor Fubara, represented by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, received a delegation of leaders and members of the RIWAMA Service Providers Association on a solidarity walk to Government House Gate in Port Harcourt. He urged service providers to intensify their efforts in ensuring prompt refuse clearance and maintaining a clean city.

Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the social contract with the Rivers people, ensuring that governance remains on a healthy footing and prioritizing the well-being of citizens.
