GWG EDITORIAL: Atiku’s Gallant Answer To The Nnamdi Kanu Question
Atiku Abubakar’s bold declaration for a political solution to the Nnamdi Kanu question was at the weekend finding political traction across the polity.
GWG.ng reports that Atiku had on Friday condemned the killing of five Nigerian soldiers and at the same time lamented the fate of students in the region who were made to forgo the Mathematics exam in the ongoing West African School Certificate Examination, WASCE because of the sit at home order supposedly imposed by the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB to mark Biafra Day.
In the same assertion, Atiku went a top notch from other political actors by calling for a political solution to the Nnamdi Kanu question. It is a path that many political actors from outside the Southeast have taken.
In his post on Friday, Atiku Abubakar said:
The violence that led to the killing of soldiers and civilians in Abia State on Thursday stands condemned. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who may have lost a loved one. May their souls rest in peace. But even more profound is the impact of yesterday’s sit-at-home in the Southeast region of our country on students writing WAEC examinations.
The veil of the so-called Unknown Gun Men hiding under cover to unleash death and mayhem must be lifted to ensure that criminal elements are separated from legitimate agitators.
To this end, without prejudice to the ongoing legal processes, I think the time has come to explore a political resolution to the Nnamdi Kanu and other associated issues. I believe that this will defuse the compressor cooker situation in the region. It will be a win-win for all parties. -AA
GWG.ng reports that the audacious declaration by Atiku for a political solution that could lead to the release of Nnamdi Kanu is the boldest declaration from a political statesman from outside the region on the issue.
Whereas many other leading political actors from the region have been indifferent to the fate of Nnamdi Kanu and the impact of the sit-at-home on the region, Atiku’s bold assertions on the effect of such on the future of the children of the region are salutary and worthy of commendation of a statesman.
GWG.ng commends Atiku’s postulation to President Bola Tinubu and all who mean well for Nigeria.
The conjecture of a political solution as offered by Atiku should engender a national discourse that should bring healing to all fragments of the polity.
Not surprisingly, some have alluded to a political motif to the call by the PDP oppositionist, but GWG.ng avers that the call is in line with many of Atiku’s many moderate postulations on national issues for which he should be commended.
