In a last-ditch effort to avert a nationwide strike, labour leaders have arrived at the National Assembly for a crucial meeting with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas of the House of Representatives. This comes just a day before the indefinite strike action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is set to commence on Monday, June 3rd.

The meeting, which is currently underway, is aimed at resolving the lingering disputes between the labour unions and the Federal Government. The NLC had issued an ultimatum to the government to meet their demands, which include a review of the minimum wage and improved working conditions.

The strike, if it goes ahead as planned, is expected to paralyze economic activities across the country, with millions of workers set to down tools. The labour leaders are determined to press for their demands, and the meeting with the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives is seen as a final attempt to find a negotiated settlement.

As the clock ticks closer to the strike deadline, all eyes are on the National Assembly, where the fate of the nation’s economy and the welfare of millions of workers hang in the balance. Will the meeting yield a breakthrough, or will the strike go ahead as planned? Only time will tell.
