A near riot occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja  after stranded passengers of Air Peace stormed the airline’s departure gate to protest the six-hour delay of the Abuja – Asaba flight for Sunday.

GWG.ng reports that the flight originally scheduled to depart Abuja at 10.25 am on Sunday was shifted to 11.50 and then 12.00.

However, shortly after noon the airport public address system broadcast an announcement that the flight P48762 would suffer a long delay on account of a technical fault with the operating aircraft. The announcement asked the passengers that they should bear with Air Peace.

GWG.ng gathered that the flight has now been scheduled to depart Abuja at 4.50 pm, a disclosure that irritated many passengers with several alleging that it has become the culture of the airline to delay flights on the Abuja-Asaba route.

Besides the delay of the Abuja-Asaba flight, Air Peace also on Sunday cancelled its scheduled Abuja-Akure flight P47004 after passengers had endured repeated time changes.

GWG.ng reports that the flight earlier scheduled to depart by 13.20 on Sunday was brought forward to 10.00 a.m.

By 9.30 a.m, the flight was, however, cancelled leaving passengers in distress. It was gathered that the flight was cancelled after the airline complained of lack of aviation fuel at Akure airport. The airline had on account considered reducing the number of passengers and load on the flight before it suddenly cancelled the flight.

Meanwhile, the airline has served the Abuja-Asaba passengers with mineral water and biscuit.
