‘Suya Spot’ Degree Certificate Was Made In Error – LASU

Published

The Lagos State University (LASU) management has issued a statement to address the recent social media buzz surrounding a degree certificate allegedly found at a ‘suya’ spot in Lagos. The university has confirmed that the certificate in question is indeed invalid.

According to LASU, the certificate was originally issued with an error – a misspelling of the graduate’s surname as “ABISOYE” instead of “ABIOYE”. This mistake led to the certificate’s invalidation on February 25, 2013. A corrected certificate with the proper surname was subsequently issued to the graduate, who collected it on September 30, 2014.

As per university policy, the invalidated certificate should have been destroyed immediately after the reissuance. However, an oversight during the disposal process resulted in the certificate inadvertently entering the public space. The university attributed this to “improper screening of office waste papers prior to disposal”.

LASU’s clarification puts to rest the speculation and misinformation circulating on social media.
