A three-man panel of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal has mandated Multichoice Nigeria to provide one month of free subscription to subscribers on the DStv and GOtv platforms.

Additionally, the tribunal fined Multichoice N150 million for challenging the court’s jurisdiction, which had previously issued an order preventing the company from raising the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages.

The ruling was delivered on Friday in Abuja by a panel led by Justice Thomas Okosu.

In May, Multichoice Nigeria raised the subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages, defying the tribunal’s earlier orders.

Initially, the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) had prohibited Multichoice Nigeria Limited from increasing its subscription tariffs and the cost of its products and services, which were set to commence on May 1.
