13-Year-Old Nigerian Boy Takes His Life After False Allegation Of N10k Theft
A heartbreaking incident has occurred in the Ungwan Maigero Community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where a 13-year-old boy, Wisdom Hashimu, took his own life after being falsely accused of theft and subjected to torture by a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).
According to reports, Wisdom was accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbor, Hope, on June 1. Hope, who is 16 years old, had invited her soldier boyfriend, Segun Samson, to investigate the incident.
Instead of reporting the matter to the police, the soldier dragged Wisdom and Hope’s brother to the Civilian JTF office, where they were brutally beaten. Wisdom, who was sitting for his Junior Secondary School examination, was severely tortured, leaving him unable to walk.
After receiving medical attention, Wisdom returned home, only to be found dead by hanging in the family compound on Thursday, June 7. His father, Mr. Saul, expressed outrage and grief, stating that the Civilian JTF took the law into their own hands and tortured his son mercilessly. He revealed that Hope’s younger brother had confessed to the crime and was found with N9,000 in his pocket.
The family is demanding justice for the torture and tragic loss of their son. The Kaduna State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the matter, with the Commissioner of Police directing the Department of Criminal Investigation to take full charge of the case. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, assured that whosoever is involved will be brought to justice.
