Benin Coach Gernot Rohr Mocks Super Eagles’ Mentality W/C Qualifier Loss
Benin Republic’s head coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed criticism of the Super Eagles’ mentality after their 2-1 defeat in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Monday.
Nigeria initially gained the upper hand in Abidjan with Raphael Onyedika scoring his first goal for the national team.
However, the team quickly faltered, allowing two goals within a span of twelve minutes.
This marked Benin’s first-ever victory over Nigeria, and Rohr, who led the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021, highlighted their significant lapse in concentration.
“We had the right organization, Nigeria scored the first goal, perhaps, they believed it was already done.
“But the reaction, the desire of my team was so strong that they could come back to win the match,” Rohr said.
