EX-RCCG Pastor Resigns After Wife’s Controversial Party And Transfer

Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, former senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, has resigned from his position following a controversial transfer to the Throne of Grace branch in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

Iluyomade, who was until last week the pastor of the successful City of David Parish, was expected to take charge as the Pastor-in-Charge of elders at his new station.

However, the transfer did not sit well with him and his wife, Siju, who were conspicuously absent during the announcement of his transfer at a church service last Sunday.

Sources close to the matter revealed that Iluyomade tendered his resignation on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, citing the transfer as the reason. The transfer may be connected to the lavish 60th birthday party thrown by his wife on February 18, 2024, which sparked controversy due to its luxurious nature and timing, coming just days after the death of prominent church member Herbert Wigwe and his family in a helicopter crash.

The birthday party, which featured highlife singer Flavour and was attended by prominent guests, was seen as insensitive and tone-deaf by many Nigerians, including the Wigwe family, who distanced themselves from the Iluyomades and the City of David branch.

The Iluyomades have remained silent on the matter, keeping their future plans under wraps. Meanwhile, Pastor Charles Kpandei has taken over as the new pastor of the City of David Parish.
