Olympic Qualifier: Rwanda Coach Seeks Rohr Help On How To Beat Super Eagles
By Benjamin Abioye
Rwanda’s national football team is preparing strategically for the upcoming 2026 World Cup CAF qualifiers against Nigeria, aiming to exploit the Super Eagles’ current performance struggles.
In Group C, Rwanda shares points with South Africa and holds an advantage in goal difference, making the upcoming matches pivotal.
Coach Torsten Frank Spittler disclosed his approach to improve Rwanda’s chances by consulting Gernot Rohr, former coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, now managing Benin Republic. Rohr guided Benin to a significant 2-1 victory over Nigeria, contributing to their four-game winless streak.
In an interview with Brila F.M, Spittler stressed the significance of learning from Rohr’s recent success, mentioning, “I am very sure we (me and Gernot Rohr) will have a phone call before; it may be two or three, and if he can tell me something, I will be stupid not to take it,” as reported by The Punch.
Spittler expressed confidence in their collaboration, emphasizing their potential mutual support, stating, “For that, we will try to be in contact; if possible, we can help each other; for sure, we will do it.”
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles, three-time African champions, face challenges in their current campaign, languishing in fifth place in their group with only three points from four matches. Their recent defeat to Benin further compounded their difficulties, resulting in coach Finidi George’s resignation.
As Rwanda readies to confront Nigeria, Spittler’s proactive step to seek advice from Rohr underscores their determination to capitalize on the vulnerabilities of the Super Eagles and secure a crucial victory toward their historic World Cup qualification bid.
