Obidients Mum As Obasanjo Visits Mrs Tinubu Hours After Wearing ‘Asiwaju Cap’
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday met with the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and with it bridged the political divide between the two presidents to have come out from the Southwest since the advent of the Fourth Republic.
GWG.ng reports that Obasanjo’s meeting with Mrs Tinubu was made public by the First Lady’s Media Aide, Busola Kukoyi via X.
Sharing photos of the two individuals, Kukoyi wrote: “Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the Former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday 17th June.”
This is coming barely 48 hours after Obasanjo was seen donning a cap with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia.
GWG.ng reports that a video of Obasanjo wearing a cap branded with Tinubu’s insignia at an event attended by some African dignitaries had earlier circulated.
Obasanjo and Tinubu are known to belong to different political affiliations despite coming from the same Southwest geopolitical zone and the former president did not hide his opposition to Tinubu’s emergence as president and was believed to have overtly supported the aspiration of Mr Peter Obi.
During the 2023 presidential election, the former President supported the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Before the election, Tinubu had visited Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, while seeking an endorsement, but the former President opted for Obi.
The former President had criticised the Tinubu’s administration’s handling of its ongoing reforms and the coup d’etat in Niger Republic.
GWG.ng reports that Obidients as supporters of Peter Obi are called have yet to digest the implication of the meeting and have yet to react to the apparent shift of the most notable supporter of their principal.
