Bwala to Obi

Daniel Bwala has sparked significant backlash with his comments targeting 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Bwala taunted Obi, using the meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and First Lady Remi Tinubu as a focal point. According to Bwala, the photograph of Tinubu’s wife with Obasanjo would cause Obi considerable distress.

Recall that on Monday, former president Olusegun Obasanjo visited Remi Tinubu to pay Sallah respects, just days after being seen with a cap bearing Tinubu’s insignia.

Despite both men being from the Southwest, Obasanjo and President Bola Tinubu belong trudged different paths.

During the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo supported Obi, even after Tinubu and some Afenifere leaders sought his endorsement.

Bwala claimed that several Pentecostal bishops have also withdrawn their support for Obi and hinted that Pat Utomi might soon do the same.

However, Bwala’s remarks did not go unchallenged, leading to a storm of backlash on social media. Critics accused him of obsessively targeting Obi without eliciting any response from the candidate.

One user, @Big_Ben_21, said, “You don’t have any shame left in you. For over 3 years now you have been on this man’s case and he has not responded to you for a minute, yet you’re not giving up. In all you do, always remember a day called tomorrow because it’s pregnant and we don’t know the outcome.”

Another user, @E_ebukaa, questioned Bwala’s integrity, asking, “Are your children not seeing your tweet??”

User @vian337 commented, “Peter Obi said he would rather talk about the cost of garri in the market than discuss you. That should have sent you to oblivion, but of course, you have no shame. Those of us with responsible fathers, God did us well.”

Other responses included @Bennoker’s blunt remark, “Gutter word? Is better than your word,” and @Chibuikeking1’s dismissal, “What does your Pat Utomi have to contribute to Peter Obi that would make Obi panic if Utomi abandons him? Nonsense.”

Additionally, @neduu_09 stated, “We are not moved by picture props,” while @attamakuza added, “Pat is not your big uncle. This means nothing really. It doesn’t translate to ‘I am no more supporting Peter Obi.'”

GWG.ng reports that Bwala’s attempt to undermine Obi using Obasanjo’s visit to Remi Tinubu appear to have backfired, drawing criticism and highlighting persistent tension in the political landscape.
