By Benjamin Abioye
The Edo State House of Assembly has announced the reinstatement of Mr. Bright Iyamu, one of the three lawmakers who was earlier suspended supposedly over issues relating to his relationship to the impeached deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Iyamu, representing Orhionmwon South under the PDP, was suspended on May 6 alongside two other legislators over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker and other key Assembly officers, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
On Monday, during the plenary session, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku announced the decision to lift Iyamu’s suspension, stating that Iyamu had shown sufficient remorse.
The two lawmakers who remain suspended are Donald Okogbe of PDP (Akoko-Edo II) and Adeh Isibor of APC (Esan North-East I).
Following Iyamu’s reinstatement, several lawmakers appealed to the Speaker to reconsider the suspensions of Okogbe and Isibor. In response, the Speaker noted that Isibor had taken the issue to court.
