The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a crucial policy meeting to determine the admissions cut-off marks for tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2024, the meeting will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, and attended by key stakeholders in the education sector.

According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin, the meeting will establish the minimum cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 admissions cycle. In attendance will be heads of regulatory agencies, including the National University Commission and the National Board for Technical Education, as well as representatives from the National Youth Service Corps and other relevant bodies.

During the meeting, JAMB’s registrar will present reports on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the ongoing direct entry (DE) applications. The registrar will also analyze key performance indicators that could shape the government’s policy directions on admission.

The meeting aims to address unresolved issues from the previous academic year, appraise stakeholders’ compliance with existing advisories, and suggest further amendments where necessary. Additionally, the meeting will discuss the performance of candidates in the current year’s UTME to determine the minimum admissible score.

Last year, stakeholders agreed on the minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. This meeting will determine the current year’s admission requirements and kick-start the admission process.

The outcome of this meeting where JAMB cut-off marks will be set will be closely watched by prospective students, parents, and education stakeholders across the country, as it will have a significant impact on the admission process for the upcoming academic year.
