Will Trump Boycott The CNN ‘Rigged’ Presidential Debate?

The first of two debates between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump styled as the CNN Presidential Debate is being flagged as rigged by the camp of the Republican challenger upon innovations that are perceived to limit their candidate.

GWG.ng reports that in the most drastic reforms to presidential debates that the microphone of the other candidate will be muted when the other candidate is speaking.

This reform will stop the other candidate from interrupting and allow each candidate to freely deliver on any issue within the allotted time. It is a revolution that is being seen as against President Trump who had in the past interrupted his opponents during debates, particularly mocking Biden as ‘Little Joe’ during the 2020 debates.

Another revolution is the absence of a live audience, a development that will deny President Trump the kind of energy he gets from supporters while delivering his attacks on challengers.

The new rules were agreed ahead of the debate that is being hosted by the CNN and is now dubbed the CNN Presidential Debate.

GWG.ng reports that this is the first debate to be organized outside the framework of the Commission of Presidential Debates. Why the Trump Campaign agreed to these changes that limit his debate performance is exactly not known. Even more shocking is the campaign’s agreement to have agreed for the CNN to host the first debate. The second debate in September is to be hosted by ABC.

Trump had in the past riled at the CNN as crooked and leftist. The network has also not been sparing in recycling his conviction with network anchors and reporters repeatedly repeating the fact that Trump was recently convicted.

Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt only last Monday while in an interview session with CNN accused one of the moderators, Jake Tapper of being a fervent critic of the Republican candidate.

“It takes someone five minutes to Google ‘Jake Tapper Donald Trump’ to see that Jake Tapper has consistently…” Leavitt said in that interview before she was cut off by the interviewer, Kasie Hunt.

However, Biden is not going into the debate with the full advantage as one of the rules being brought in could lead to him botching his aspiration before a live audience.

The candidates under the rules will not be allowed to bring in written notes to the rostrum as they will only be allowed a biro, blank paper and water.

President Biden who has in the past often fluffed lines even in the face of teleprompters and written notes will be on the spot to address issues relating to memory lapse.

Even more, the candidates will not be allowed to consult with aides during the commercial breaks another prospect that the Biden campaign is dreading during the debate.

The debate is to last for 90 minutes a stretch that is also bound to test the physical abilities of the two candidates as they will be expected to stand throughout the debate.

Based on the few expectations from his critics, Trump has the advantage going into the debate to win over those in the margin in the first debate between a sitting president and his predecessor.

The debate holds at 9 pm EST Thursday, (USA) which will be 2.00 a.m. (Friday) Lagos, Nigeria.
