France have edged out Portugal in the Euro tournament coasting home by 5-3 after Joao Felix failed to push home his penalty at the end of a goalless 120 minutes.

GWG.ng reports that the match ended 0-0 at full time forcing the match into extra time and eventually into the penalty shootout.

The match had been heralded by the fascination of French playmaker Mbappe squaring off against his childhood hero, Cristiano Ronaldo.

GWG.ng reports that Ronaldo ended the game with the shadow that Euro 2024 would be the first international competition of such level that Ronaldo did not score a goal.
France is now set to meet Spain in the semi-finals.

GWG.ng reports former Celtic striker, Chris Sutton telling BBC Radio 5 Live that France did not deserve to win the match after continuing a lacklustre run.

“Performance wasn’t there, but the penalties were quite incredible. The last one the pressure was on Theo Hernandez – he sent Diogo Costa the wrong way.

“France did not deserve to go through and they have been bang average in this competition, it is about finding a way in tournament football. Didier Deschamps stumbles through again.”

GWG.ng further reports that the France and Portugal game is generally expected to be the final note for a glorious international career for Ronaldo.
