LGBTQ: Jonathan Trends As Nigerians Flay Samoa Agreement

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been trending on X as Nigerians recall his firm opposition to Lesbians Gays Bisexual Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) relationships as against the recent admittance by the Federal Government that it signed the Samoa Agreement with Western powers that makes it compulsory to support LGBTQ rights as a condition for foreign aid.

GWG.ng reports that the Bola Tinubu administration has, however, said that the law against LGBTQ would not be compromised in the country.

This comes up amid Nigeria’s assent f the Samoa Agreement at the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium on 28 June 2024.

The agreement reportedly has some clauses that compel underdeveloped and developing nations to support the agitations by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community for recognition, as a condition for getting financial and other support from advanced societies.”

On the heels of this development, both Muslims and Christians flooded their social space to recall the ex-president’s position.

@musa_kiliya who took the lead in the discussion shared a screenshot of the said newspaper where Jonathan criminalized LGBTQ relationships.

He stated, “We once had a President not a Muslim Muslim but check the action taken.”

GWG.ng on Thursday night reported that the Federal Government of Nigeria confirmed signing Samoa agreement, saying the law on same sex marriage supersedes the agreement.
