Ooni Shrugs Off Criticism Over Presence, Shaking Hands At Davido’s Wedding
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has dismissed criticism over his presence at the wedding of Afrobeat singer Davido and Chioma in Lagos on Tuesday. The monarch’s presence and interactions with guests sparked a backlash from some Nigerians, but Oba Ogunwusi remains unfazed.
Speaking to journalists at a briefing, the first-class monarch found the criticism amusing, showcasing his resilience in the face of public opinion. He drew comparisons with his predecessors, who were more social despite the absence of social media at the time.
“I woke up to see people talking about my attendance at Davido’s wedding, saying I was shaking hands. I just laughed,” Oba Ogunwusi said. “Every news, whether good or bad, depends on how you spin it. I choose to spin any negative news into something positive.”
The monarch emphasized that his predecessors were more social than him, despite the lack of social media in their time. “People love to talk about me, and I’m okay with that,” he added.
Oba Ogunwusi also used the opportunity to call for the empowerment of young people in Nigeria, stressing its importance in improving the lives of families.
By attending the wedding and engaging with the guests, Oba Ogunwusi demonstrated his commitment to connecting with people from all walks of life, regardless of criticism. His message of resilience and positivity is an inspiration to many.
