Ghanaian Chef Smith has publicly apologized for falsifying his Guinness World Record certificate, kneeling and tearfully seeking forgiveness from Ghanaians. This comes after his earlier announcement and display of a counterfeit certificate, which was later exposed as a hoax.

In a poignant interview with GHOne TV, Chef Smith expressed deep regret, revealing that his actions were driven by desperation and a desire to survive. He humbly begged for forgiveness, acknowledging that his actions had brought shame to the nation.

“I am deeply sorry for my actions. I was desperate and wanted to achieve something, but I went about it the wrong way. I know I have let Ghana down, and for that, I am truly sorry,” Chef Smith said, his voice trembling with emotion.

His assistant, Leticia Martekie Sankah, also publicly apologized for her role in the incident, taking full responsibility for her involvement and expressing regret for unwittingly supporting a fraudulent claim.

Guinness World Records confirmed that the genuine record holder is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who achieved the feat in Japan in 2023. Chef Smith’s apology has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising his courage in owning up to his mistake and others calling for accountability.
