WWE Champion John Cena has announced his retirement from in-ring competitions from 2025, with the WrestleMania 41 touted to be his final contest.

His surprise announcement came during an appearance at the Money in the Bank event in Toronto on Saturday.

The 47-year-old, who has 16 WWE Champion titles to his name, declared during the event, “Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from WWE,” adding that he will be part of the 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 41 in Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.

At the Money in the Bank event, Cena entered the ring as he held a towel, with the catchphrase, “The Last Time Is Now”, a modified version of his usual “My Time Is Now”. The message on his shirt read, “John Cena Farewell Tour”.

“Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to play in a house that you guys built for so many years. Thank you so much for your voice because it’s really loud and for your honesty because it’s always brutal,” the WWE legend said.

As he began to speak at the event, the crowd expressed their dismay, erupting into chants of “No! No! No!”.

Now fans hope that Cena will continue to entertain them through his movies after his WWE era. He is known for acting in  films, including Suicide Squad, Fast X and The Independent.

His top rivals at the WWE included the likes of The Rock, Triple H, Randy Orton, Edge, Seth Rollins and CM Punk.
