Tragedy As Nigerian Bandits Kidnap Two Journalists, Families

A devastating attack occurred in Danhonu community, Chikun local government area of Kaduna State, on Saturday night, as bandits stormed the residence of two journalists, kidnapping them, their wives, and children. The victims, Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe and AbdulRaheem Aodu, are reporters for The Nation and Blueprint Newspapers in Kaduna State.

Alhaji Alabelewe, the current chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, was taken alongside his wife and two children. AbdulRaheem Aodu and his wife were also kidnapped, leaving behind their sick daughter.

Eyewitness and family member, Taofeeq Olayemi, described the terrifying incident, stating that the bandits arrived at around 10:30 pm, shooting sporadically before breaking into the homes. They shattered doors and windows, scaling the fence to gain entry.

The bandits initially took Alhaji Alabelewe, his wife, three children, and a guest, but later released one child and the guest. They then forced their way into AbdulRaheem Aodu’s home, abducting him and his wife, while leaving their sick daughter behind.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mansir Hassan, was unreachable for comment at the time of filing this report over the kidnapping incident of the journalists by the bandits.

This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the journalism community and beyond, highlighting the escalating insecurity in the region.
