NNPC Blames Misunderstanding Between ‘Mothers’ And ‘Daughters’ For Abuja Fuel Scarcity

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on Monday attributed the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol to disruptions in ship-to-ship transfers between mother and daughter vessels.
Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, explained in a statement, “The fuel queues in the FCT are primarily due to disruption of ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of PMS between Mother Vessels and Daughter Vessels resulting from recent thunderstorms, and the consequential flooding of trucking routes which constrained movement of PMS to Abuja from coastal corridors.”
Petrol has been scarce in the FCT since last week, causing pump prices to increase to as much as N720 to N820 per litre.
Although some independent marketers are selling petrol for N690 per litre amid long queues, Total Energies offers it at N660 per litre.
NNPCL retail outlets continue to sell petrol for N617 per litre, resulting in the longest queues at these stations.
