Impressed With Brickhall School, Abuja, Uzodimma Solicits Support For Private Schools

In response to the soaring need for quality education, the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has solicited increased support for private school operators in Nigeria and particularly those offering basic education services.

Uzodimma said the support has become so important considering the increasing quest and need for quality and affordable education services, emphasizing that the government alone cannot meet the educational needs of the people, hence the need for private sector participation.

The governor made this request while he  spoke at the graduation ceremony for college students of Brickhall School, Abuja, at weekend, as a Special Guest of Honour, promising to amplify campaign for such assistance to the operators of private schools.

He said: “Government alone cannot provide quality education for Nigerians, and it’s important that we know that. This was, perhaps, responsible for the concept of private sector involvement in the education system at all levels.

“As the special guest of honour at this graduation ceremony, I am impressed with the great successes that this school has recorded over the years, and we would be ever ready to support the activities of this school and its students.”

Uzodimma congratulated the graduating students and urged them to deploy the knowledge and skills they might have acquired over the years to better their lives, thus contributing positively to their personal and national growth and development.

Chairman/Founder of the School, Senator Joy Emodi, in her welcome address, congratulated the graduating students for passing through rigorous academic and non-academic activities that culminated in their graduation from the College.

She expressed confidence in the knowledge and skills they had acquired over the years in the school, challenging them to deploy the knowledge and skills for maximum impact in their next academic journey, thus making themselves, parents and Brickhall School proud.

She told the gathering that the graduating students had impressive performance in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), thus increasing their chances of securing admission opportunities into their respective choice Universities.

Senator Emodi announced that Brickhall school has been attracting and enjoying good will from Nigerians, disclosing that a Nigerian philanthropist recently provided scholarship opportunity to six indigent children who, for financial reasons, might not afford the cost of education in the school.

She also announced the commencement of some external/foreign examination that would increase the chances of the student to secure academic and empowerment opportunities abroad.

Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Hassan Aminu Dantata, in his remarks, congratulated the students, and reminded them of huge responsibilities ahead, academically and otherwise, that would further prepare them for leadership positions.

He expressed optimism in the chances of the students to bring glory to themselves, their families, friends, well wishers and the school (Brickhall) that gave them strong basic education foundation.

He challenged the students to be good ambassadors and representatives of the school in their future academic and non-academic sojourn.

Keynote speaker, Prof. Joy Eyisi, in her presentation told the graduates that they have just entered into new phase of their lives and academic journey, highlighting 12 key points that would enable them succeed in their future academic engagement and otherwise.

She encouraged the fresh graduates to dream big, work hard, be determined to succeed, build self confidence, learn from failure, keep good company, manage time, have healthy life and mind, make adequate preparation, avoid immorality, and be available for life long learning. “Taking note of these keypoints would help you succeed in whatever target you might have set for yourselves, academically or otherwise,” she said.

Some of the parents appreciated the great work of the teachers and the school management which, they said, was evident in the academic and general life of the children.

Meanwhile, the outgone Head Girl and Boy, Liana Olajide and Kenechukwu Eze, respectively, handed over the baton of leadership to their successors, while the students of different classes made several presentations to entertain the parents and other guests.
