Argentina Taunts Drake Over $300,000 Copa America Bet Loss
By Benjamin Abioye
Argentina mocked Canadian-American rapper Drake after he lost a bet on his home country’s Copa America chances.
The incident unfolded amidst a rivalry with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar, where both have traded jabs in their songs.
Drake had wagered $300,000 (about N450 million) on Canada’s victory over defending champions Argentina in the Copa America semi-final. He posted on Instagram, indicating a potential $2.88 million payout if Canada, led by head coach Jesse Marsch, had won the match.
However, Argentina clinched a 2-0 victory with goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi, securing their fourth final appearance in five Copa America editions.
Following the game, Argentina’s official social media account responded to Drake’s post with a photo of Messi and teammates celebrating, captioned, “Not like us, not with us,” referencing Kendrick Lamar’s critical track aimed at Drake.
The song, released in 2014, has garnered significant attention with nearly half a billion streams on Spotify and over 115 million views on YouTube.
Argentina now aims for a record 16th Copa America title and awaits the winner of the Uruguay-Colombia semi-final for Sunday’s final showdown.
