A five-year-old girl, Moridiyat Rauf, was hospitalized after a vicious dog attack in Ibadan, Oyo State. The incident occurred when she visited the dog’s owner, an elderly woman, at her home in the Adagbada Arola area of Apete.

According to reports, Moridiyat had gone to greet the woman, Mrs. Esther, believing the dog was secured in its cage. However, the dog had managed to loosen the padlock and attacked the girl as she entered the house, biting off her hair and flesh covering her head.

In a desperate attempt to protect the girl, Mrs. Esther shielded her with her body, but the dog turned on her, biting off her tongue and tearing a chunk of flesh from her face. The girl’s brother, who witnessed the horrific scene, said: “I heard my sister’s piercing cry and rushed to the woman’s house. I was shocked by what I saw. The woman had shielded my sister with her body, and I started shouting for help. I tried to climb the fence, but the dog held on to them. Eventually, elders intervened, killed the dog, and rushed my sister to the hospital.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that hoodlums took advantage of the situation and vandalized the dog owner’s home.
