“I Thought He Was Not Igbo?” – Wike’s Fluent Igbo Song Sparks Controversy (Videos)
By Benjamin Abioye
Another wave of reactions has trailed a video featuring former governor of Rivers State and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, singing and dancing in celebration of his wife’s inauguration as a justice of the Court of Appeal.
In the video of the celebration at the minister’s Abuja residence, notable attendees included the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, the G5 Governors, friends, and associates of the FCT Minister. They were all having a joyous moment at the minister’s Abuja residence as he celebrated his wife JCA’s inauguration.
Many reactions stemmed from the fact that Wike continued his public display of singing and dancing, despite the recent jibe from the current governor of Rivers State, Governor Fubara.
Some recalled Governor Fubara’s comment that “Wike dances in the media but cries behind the scenes,” using it to criticize Wike’s performance in the video. One user, @OkworiDeco, tweeted, “Dance in the day and cry in the night.”
Others pointed out the contradiction in Wike’s language use. Despite previously claiming he was not Igbo, Wike sang in Igbo in the video. This led to comments such as @JimmyAsika6281’s: “I thought he’s not Igbo, can you imagine?” @chijiokemartin9 added, “So Wike can speak Igbo?” and @AdeyemiGCFR questioned, “But he said Ikwerres are from Benin. How come he speaks Igbo fluently?”
A particular user on X, @_iam_eflash, highlighted Wike’s reputation for anti-party politics in reaction to the video, commenting, “Gathering of PDAPC. One thing I must commend Wike for is his successful anti-party politics. No one does it better than him.”

@_iam_eflash: Gathering of PDAPC. One thing I must commend Wike for, is his successful anti party politics. No one does it better than him.
@chijiokemartin9: So wike can speak igbo?
@Kingsleynatha11: See ehh. Hmmm. It’s alright. I don’t know if I’m to say that these guys are totally disconnected or just admit they’re humans too who equally deserve happiness. On a 2nd thought, they’re humans after all. The average man in the street will have to decide if they stay happy or not
@tonysteppex: The day Wike will be disgraced, call me from wherever I am. Insha Allah, I will be there.
@DrAnozie: Grown children. Anyway, it amazes me how one of the children is singing in Igbo language while the other child sings in Ikwere, yet they are singing the same song, same language. and understand each other’s song to be same.
@JimmyAsika6281: I thought he’s not igbo can you imagine
@Adesanyajnr: Cos they know the support they will keep getting. Shameless lots
@UgochukwuAni2: This is a mockery to Nigerians. The only difference in Nigerian political class is His Excellency
@PeterObi, The rest are teammates.
@tonygous_ik: Where is @seyiamakinde ? Hope he has not left d hood or he is now busy with governance? Ire o
@VoteDefenderNG: Wike is so desperate to avoid prosecution and go scot-free with his loot that he had to lobby his wife to the highest position in the Judiciary in order to get maximum protection. He will lobby his wife to Supreme Court before 2027. Nigerians should be protesting against this
@__kadibia: Ikpeazu when you finish dancing Alex otti is still waiting for you to give account of your administration.
@AdeyemiGCFR: But he said Ikwerres are from Benin 😂😂😂😂🤣. How come he speaks Igbo fluently? 🤔😏
@Dcblessings1015: Good one @GovWike we the youths are learning your pattern of politics.
@JohnSam82044202: Politicians are all the same, but I thing I hate is politicians who said they are saint’s after decamping, and still they go pack to the same politicians they left in their previous political, holding evil meetings in the night and refused to post it on their Twitter handle
