43rd Olubadan

Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin was officially crowned as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland in a traditional ceremony held at the Labosinde compound on Friday.

The Labosinde compound holds the ancestral right to crown the Olubadan, making it a significant location for this event.

GWG.ng reports that the decision to perform the coronation at the Labosinde compound follows the historical pattern as reflected in past coronations of Ibadan monorachs in recent times.

Following his coronation, the newly crowned Olubadan proceeded to Ile Osemeji in the Oja Oba area. This site is historically important as it is associated with divination revelations concerning the future of Ibadan.

In a subsequent ceremony, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State presented the staff and instruments of office to Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, now known as Ige Olakulehin I. The presentation took place around 2:45 pm on Friday at the frontage of Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

During the presentation, Governor Makinde addressed the gathering, stating, “They said they want to sabotage, they want to sabotage, we are here today at Mapo Hall. I, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State by the virtue of power conferred on me, hereby present the staff of office to the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. Let us say Kabiesi!”

The ceremonies highlighted the deep-rooted traditions and cultural heritage of Ibadanland, marking a new chapter in its history with the installation of its 43rd Olubadan.
