Man Arraigned For Allegedly Poisoning Woman To death

A 40-year-old man, Bello Musa, was arraigned on Friday in a Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of allegedly poisoning 31-year-old, woman Shamsiyya Usman, resulting in her death.

Musa, also known as Katuka Dingyadi, faces three charges: culpable homicide, providing false information, and engaging in fraudulent activities.

Musa pleaded not guilty to the charge of poisoning the woman in Kebbi.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Muntari Mati, detailed the incident, stating that Musa committed the crime on June 26 at Shagalinku Hotel in Birnin Kebbi. “Musa lodged in room 412, Shagalinku Hotel, Tudun Wada, Birnin Kebbi with Usman, 31, now deceased, of Go-Slow area Birnin Kebbi,” Mati explained.

Mati further described the crime: “At about 10.00 am, Bello Musa poisoned her drinks of Maltina, 5 Alive, and Swan Water, and after drinking them, she died on the spot. Musa also abandoned her corpse and escaped to an unknown destination.”

Musa was apprehended on July 2 at Sweet Hotel in the Dangoro area, Marjani Street, Katsina State. “He gave his name to the receptionist as Zubairu Sani from Minna, Niger, to avoid arrest,” Mati added.

Besides the allegation of poisoning the woman, authorities discovered 18 different ATM cards in Musa’s possession, which he confessed to using for defrauding bank customers.

The offences Musa is charged with violate sections 193, 142, and 140 of the Kebbi State Penal Code Law. The prosecutor requested an adjournment to allow the police to complete their investigations for further proceedings.

Chief Magistrate Usman Umar-Bunza adjourned the case to July 25 for further mention and to refer the case file to the Ministry of Justice for advice. Umar-Bunza ordered that Musa be remanded in the custodial center until his next court appearance.
