In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted substantial quantities of cocaine and opioids destined for the United States, United Kingdom, and Cyprus. The drugs were cleverly concealed in various items, including custom-made shoes, clothes, and household goods.

According to NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI) discovered the drugs in Lagos, hidden in packages meant to be shipped through courier firms.

The seized drugs include:

  • 250 grams of cocaine bound for Cyprus, hidden in shoe soles
  • Over 5 kilograms of opioids (tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate, and ketamine injection) heading to the US and UK, concealed in clothes and household items

The abortion of the planned export to Cyprus among others was disclosed by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

The agency’s efforts have prevented these dangerous drugs from reaching their destinations, potentially saving lives and preventing harm to communities.
