Rivers Assembly Stops Governor Fubara’s Spending Until Budget Submission

Published

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has halted all state expenditures until Governor Siminalayi Fubara submits the budget to the assembly.

This action follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to Governor Fubara to present the 2024 budget. Major Jack brought a motion to inform the House about the lapse of the deadline.

As a result, the assembly resolved that Governor Fubara can no longer authorize spending from the state’s consolidated revenue fund, and ministries are prohibited from using public funds until the 2024 budget is presented.

Recall that in December 2023, the governor signed an 800 billion naira budget into law after presenting it to lawmakers under the former factional speaker, Mr. Edison Ehie.
