By Gideon Ayeni
A video circulating on social media shows a man identified only as Alfa issuing a stern warning to local government chairmen regarding the proper use of federal allocations. Alfa threatened to hold accountable any local government official who fails to provide necessary facilities and amenities after receiving funds from the federal government.
“Any Local Government Chairman who refuses to deliver will be dealt with mercilessly. Thank God Local Government Chairman has no immunity,” Alfa stated in the video.

This warning comes just days after a landmark Supreme Court ruling granted local government autonomy. This ruling ensures that federal allocations are sent directly to the local government level, bypassing the state governments that previously controlled the funds.
GWG.ng reports that the Supreme Court’s decision aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the distribution of resources, empowering local governments to address the needs of their communities directly. However, Alfa’s video underline concerns about potential misuse of these funds and emphasizes the importance of accountability in local governance.
The autonomy ruling is seen as a significant step toward improving local governance, but the call for vigilance and accountability remains crucial.
As local governments adjust to their newfound autonomy, the pressure to deliver essential services and infrastructure to their communities has never been greater. The public, empowered by voices like Alfa’s, is ready to ensure that officials are held responsible for their actions and that federal allocations are used effectively for the benefit of all citizens.
