Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams, lawmaker representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has passed away. He died in the early hours of Tuesday.

Before his political career, Adams had a notable background in sports, having been a former football player and the General Manager of both Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars. He successfully transitioned to politics, winning the House of Representatives election under the Labour Party in 2023.

Despite being a first-term legislator, his sports background earned him the appointment as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.

Adams’ political journey saw him aligning with multiple parties. Initially, he joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) before finding success with the Labour Party (LP).

In 2021, he contested for the local government chairman under the APC but lost in the primaries. He also lost the APC primaries for the House of Representatives but later secured the LP ticket, leading to his eventual victory in the 2023 elections.

Adams came from a diverse background. His mother is Igbo, his wife Yoruba, and his father from a minority tribe in Kaduna.

GWG.ng reports that the death of Ekene marks the second death of a lawmaker in the House of Representatives within a week, adding to the recent string of losses in the Nigerian political sphere.
