How Market Women Are Ganging Up To Raise Price Of Garri (Video)

In a shocking display of price control and competition, a group of market women in Ilorin stormed the shop of a colleague who was selling garri at a lower price than the going rate.

The woman, who was selling garri for 800 naira, was accused by her fellow market women of undercutting her fellow sellers, who claim to sell the same product for 1,300-1,500 naira.

Despite the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, who struggle to afford basic necessities like food, these market women prioritized their profits over people’s needs for basic food items.

GWG.ng reports that the ident highlights the challenges of price control and competition in Nigeria’s informal markets.

It is ironic that these market women, who are also struggling to make ends meet, would gang up against a colleague who was trying to make her garri more affordable for customers. This action perpetuates the cycle of poverty and scarcity, rather than promoting economic growth and accessibility.
