The court reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu welcomed the national chairman of the APC to Benin City on Friday, further escalating the drama about his political future

Political assumptions about the intentions of the court reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu was deepening at the weekend after he welcomed the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Umar Ganduje to the state.

The video of the airport reception which circulated among political platforms in Edo State deepened comments credited to the embattled deputy governor over his imminent exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

GWG.ng reports that many political leaders in the Legacy Group in the PDP have been walking away from the party mainly to the APC apparently with the aim of serving vengeance on Governor Godwin Obaseki who they claim forced them out of the party after giving him accommodation following his forced exit from the APC.

Earlier on Friday before welcoming Ganduje, Shaibu had for the first time publicly spoken out on his uncertain future in the PDP saying on Arise Television:

“In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”

Speaking further, Shaibu stated since the political crisis in the state started, he had called his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, 101 times without the governor picking up his calls or returning them.

GWG.ng further reports that Shaibu joined the PDP in 2020 alongside Obaseki but the politics of succession caused the two political collaborators to go asunder, a development that apparently led him into the arms of the APC chairman, Ganduje.
