Governor Abba Yusuf Reinstates Aliyu Abdulkadir As Emir Of Gaya
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano on Friday made a major political move by offering an appointment letter to Aliyu Abdulkadir, reinstating him as the Emir of Gaya.
This decision came shortly after the governor signed a bill creating three second-class emirates in the state.
The reinstatement of Abdulkadir was described as “based on merit” by Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for the Kano government.
The context of this reinstatement is rooted in the earlier dissolution of five emirates, during which all emirs were deposed.
Abdulkadir was notably the only emir who accepted this dissolution as the will of Almighty Allah, a stance that likely influenced his reinstatement.
As Tofa stated, “You may recall that the Emir of Gaya was the only one who accepted the will of Almighty Allah at the time when the five emirates were dissolved and all emirs deposed.”
The reappointment of Abdulkadir coincided with broader structural changes within Kano’s traditional leadership framework.
On the same day of his reinstatement, Gov Yusuf appointed other emirs as second-class emirs, reflecting ongoing political adjustments.
This move shows the dynamic nature of Kano’s traditional leadership and the governor’s role in shaping it.
During his visit to the Kano Government House to receive his appointment letter, Abdulkadir was accompanied by all the kingmakers and other titleholders from his emirate, signifying strong support from his constituency as the emir of Gaya.
