Popular Gospel Singer, Orenze Clarifies Controversial Statement About God

Nigerian Gospel singer Victoria Orenze has sparked a heated debate on social media after referring to God as “Jehovah El-Steeze” in a viral video. The term “Steeze” is a trendy slang that means style, swag, or impressive appearance.

Following the backlash, Orenze took to social media to clarify her statement, citing Bible verses that describe God in various ways, such as a consuming fire, light, and thunder. She explained that her use of the word “Steeze” was not meant to be taken literally, but rather to emphasize God’s distinctive and impressive nature.

“God’s distinctive and impressive way, style, and composure blow my mind,” she wrote. “Scriptures say He is a consuming fire (Heb. 12:29), wrapped in light (Psalm 104:2), and His eyes are like fire (Rev. 19:12, 1:14). His voice is like thunder, and His presence makes mountains skip like rams (Psalm 114:1-8).”

Orenze emphasized that she follows understanding and revelation, not trends or slangs. She encouraged her followers to pause and see God beyond the trends. “The fact that we have used the word ‘Steeze’ as a slang does not change its meaning in English,” she said. “Scriptures say the One who watches over me neither sleeps nor slumbers, so I can safely say my God does not and cannot lose guard.”

Orenze’s clarification has sparked a mixed reaction on social media, with some praising her for standing firm in her faith and others criticizing her for using trendy language to describe God.
