The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philips Shaibu, has stated that he is an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shaibu disclosed this while featuring on Arise TV’s morning show on Friday.

Shaibu said his spirit had left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing the only thing still keeping him in the party was because he was yet to dump the party officially and join the APC.

Giving reasons for supporting the APC governorship candidate in Edo state, he said, “In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”

Speaking further, Shaibu stated since the political crisis in the state started, he had called his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, 101 times without the governor picking up his calls or returning them.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has berated the reinstated Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, accusing him of leading a group of thugs in attacks on innocent citizens and private property in Benin City.

GWG.ng reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on Wednesday nullified Shaibu’s impeachment and reinstated him as the Deputy Governor.

The court directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to restore Shaibu’s full security details.

But the Edo State Government swiftly appealed the court’s ruling and applied for a Stay of Execution.

While the court is yet to rule on the Stay of Execution, Shaibu returned to Edo State on Thursday, which resulted in clashes between supporters of the reinstated Deputy Governor and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
