Islamic Scholar Challenges Tinubu’s Govt to Investigate His Minister, Mattawalle Over Threats To Insecurity (Video)
Renowned Sokoto-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Murtala Asada, has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging President Bola Tinubu’s government to investigate Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mattawalle, over allegations of complicity in backing terrorism in Nigeria’s North West.
The cleric’s challenge comes on the heels of a video released by notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Bello Turji, accusing Mattawalle of supporting terrorism in the region. The Minister has denied the allegations through his media consultant, Deyemi Saka.
Sheikh Asada, known for his vocal stance against banditry and bad governance, questioned the government’s sincerity in fighting insecurity, asking why Mattawalle remains in office despite what he claimed as reports against him. He emphasized that investigating the Minister and other accused sponsors of terrorism is crucial to ending the menace.
During his Sunday sermon in Sokoto, In a statement released in Hausa and interpreted by GWG, Asada lamented the government’s inaction, stating, “If you negotiate with ten bandits in the bushes, those within the cities will facilitate and kidnap hundreds more victims and send them back to the bushes. The bigwig sponsors are living in the cities.”
He urged the Sokoto State Government to take responsibility and apprehend those aiding and abetting banditry, warning that the situation in North Sokoto is cause for serious concern.
