Mobile Policemen Withdrawn From VIPs Ahead Of Protest
In preparation for the upcoming nationwide protest, the Nigeria Police Force has issued a directive withdrawing mobile policemen from VIPs and others not statutorily entitled to the service.
GWG.ng reports that the directive to withdraw the mobile policemen ahead of the national protest was contained in a memo titled “Notification of Temporary Withdrawal of Personnel for National Assignment.”
This order mandates the temporary reassignment of mobile police officers currently serving as personal security for affluent individuals across the country to be recalled to handle the national protest against hardship.
The directive, dated July 25, 2024, was issued by Commanding Officer CSR. Okon E. Moses.
This move is part of a broader strategy to bolster national security amid anticipated public demonstrations aimed at urging the government to address the prevailing economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
The notification states: “In view of the planned nationwide protest, it becomes imperative to temporarily withdraw some of the personnel attached to you in order to muster sufficient officers to dominate the public space. This is part of the proactive necessary measures to enhance the operational capacity/capability of the squadron, and your understanding in the above regard is highly solicited.”
The notification concludes with a request for cooperation and understanding from the affected individuals, emphasizing the importance of these measures to ensure public safety and operational readiness during the protests.
Commanding Officer CSR. Okon E. Moses, who signed the notification, expressed the force’s commitment to maintaining security and stability during this period of heightened public activity.
