Disney/Marvel Studios’ latest blockbuster, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” has made history with a staggering $205 million opening weekend, becoming the ninth film to join the exclusive $200 million-plus club.

This achievement marks a significant milestone, as it’s the first R-rated film to reach this feat.

The movie’s impressive debut surpasses the previous July opening weekend record held by the 2019 “Lion King” remake, which earned $191 million. “Deadpool & Wolverine” now stands as the highest-grossing opening weekend in July.

Globally, the film has dominated the box office, earning $233.5 million overseas for a worldwide total of $438.5 million. This remarkable start propels Marvel’s lifetime franchise grosses past the $30 billion mark, making it likely that “Deadpool & Wolverine” will join “Joker” as the second R-rated film to gross $1 billion worldwide.

The film’s success has also boosted the overall domestic weekend grosses to an estimated $280 million, the highest since the historic opening weekend of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” last year.

Other notable box office performances include:

  • “Twisters” holding strong with $36 million in its second weekend
  • “Despicable Me 4” continuing its successful run with $14.2 million
  • “Inside Out 2” crossing milestones with $8.3 million in its seventh weekend
  • “Longlegs” surpassing “Parasite” as Neon’s highest-grossing film with $6.7 million in its third weekend.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” has cemented its place as one of the summer season’s critical tentpoles, and its impact on the box office is undeniable.
