As Nigerian youths prepare for the nationwide protest tagged ‘End Bad Governance’, Yobe state Government has ordered the closure of schools.

The Yobe State Government has announced the closure of all primary and secondary schools in the state in anticipation of the nationwide hardship protests scheduled for August 1, 2024.

This decision was communicated through a memo from the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, signed by the Director of Schools Management, Bukar M. Modu. According to the memo, all schools in the state will be closed on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, instead of the previously scheduled Friday, August 2, 2024, which marks the end of the academic session for both public and private schools.

Bukar M. Modu explained that the early closure is a precautionary measure in response to the planned protests. He added that schools are expected to resume academic activities on September 15, 2024.

Confirming the development, the State Commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, stated, “You know we might know the beginning of this protest but could not predict the consequences.”

This preemptive action by the Yobe State government aims to ensure the safety of students, staff and schools amid concerns over potential unrest during the protest.
