The Edo State Police Command has announced its commitment to supporting and protecting #EndBadGovernance protesters, provided the protest remains peaceful.

This promise comes amidst growing anticipation for the protest scheduled to commence Thursday, August 1st in Edo State as elsewhere.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday evening, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, emphasized the citizens’ right to protest. “We had a meeting with some leaders of the protest. We have agreed that it must be peaceful. We are going to protect them, but there will be no blocking of roads or violence,” CP Adegboye stated.

To ensure a smooth and orderly protest, the police in Edo have pledged to provide sachet water and sweets to the demonstrators. CP Adegboye assured that residents who choose not to participate in the protest would be allowed to go about their daily activities without disruption. “Police will protect and support them with sachet water and sweets. We have agreed that they will only occupy the Kings Square, which is the venue of the protest,” he added.

Furthermore, the Edo COMPOL warned troublemakers to stay away from the protest, promising decisive action against anyone who attempts to disrupt the peace.

This supportive stance from the police aims to facilitate a peaceful demonstration while ensuring the safety and rights of all citizens are respected.
