The nationwide protest against the hike in fuel prices, food costs, and daily amenities has seen Nigerians coming out in large numbers, with many celebrities cheering them on via social media but Tonto Dikeh has turned into an expection.

However, actress Tonto Dikeh has taken a different stance, opting to praise President Tinubu for his contributions and timely developments in the country.

In a post that contrasts sharply with the objectives of the protest, Tonto Dikeh commended the President’s efforts, stating:

“Statistics don’t lie: everyone is working to get this country to where we want it to be. One thing about Nigerians is that if they don’t like you, nothing you do will ever be good enough for them. Let’s not deny this glaring truth. Stay safe and make wise decisions always.”

According to the statistics shared by Tonto Dikeh, improvements have been seen in foreign reserves, minimum wage, forex backlog, oil production, and the debt-to-revenue ratio. These figures stand in stark contrast to the protesters’ grievances, which focus on the rising cost of living.

Tonto Dikeh is one of the few celebrities who have openly discouraged the nationwide protest, a stance that diverges from many of her colleagues who are advocating for the demonstrations to proceed at all costs. Despite this, Tonto is not alone in her support for President Tinubu. Actors Toyin Abraham and Yul Edochie have also expressed their backing for the President.

Toyin Abraham, in particular, has faced significant backlash for her support. She has previously stated that her support is based on President Tinubu’s plans for Nigeria, which he shared with her. However, this has not quelled the criticism, as netizens have demanded to know these plans, with some resorting to online abuse.

The situation escalated when Toyin Abraham arrested one of her online trolls, leading to a larger movement calling for a boycott of her work. Despite the controversies, both Abraham and Dikeh remain steadfast in their support for President Tinubu, highlighting the deep divisions within the country regarding its leadership and future direction.
